The Region

Fonsalade is situated in the Hérault which is one of five Departments in the Languedoc-Roussillion Region of France. To the North/East of the Languedoc is the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur Region and the Pyrénées and Spanish border lie to the South.

The main City in the Hérault is Montpellier with secondary cities being Béziers and Lodève. The department is geographically diverse, with the Mediterranean Sea and 67 miles of beaches, the beautiful Cévennes mountains, and agricultural land (mostly vineyards) in between.

Apart from the sandy beaches, there are numerous interesting towns and villages to visit with lots of history as well as markets in most towns and villages at least once a week. The region produces vast quantities of good quality wine and has numerous great restaurants.

The Canal du Midi runs through the region and runs into the Mediterranean at Sète and is excellent for walks or cycling.
